Foreshore Shenanigans Lead to Local Roadblocks

June 30, 2010

Even though we are in the depths of darkest, chilliest Melbourne Winter – take heart! We are also not so far off another sterling racing season and the summer festivities that follow. For St Kilda and her surrounding suburbs, this can mean having quite a frantic summer full of visitors to the neighbourhood.

One of Melbourne’s busiest roads, route 33, which incorporates Beach Rd, Jacka Blvd and Marine and Beaconsfield parades, will be closed on 10 different occasions between October and March.

Port Philip Mayor Frank O’Connor says that over 500,o00 people will take part in events including the St Kilda festival, Melbourne Marathon and Melbourne Triathlon and that some road closures are necessary as a matter of public safety. What do you think? Do you enjoy these festivities or is it all a bit much?
