Prolific Local Blogger Mary Walsh Passed Away

July 7, 2010

Taken from her website, this image proclaims the recently deceased local icon Mary Walsh’s attitude to life. Yes!! I want my say in my community!

Reported in this week’s Caulfield Leader was the sudden death of Mrs Walsh who was 67 . She was a prolific blogger who described herself as ‘a strong minded woman motivated by community issues relating to integrity in Government. I have been described as anti Semitic, forthright, stubborn, pig headed, dedicated, balanced, and determined. I want to live fully until I die!’

She did indeed live fully, as one can observe from her local blogsite Glen Eira Opinions. On this site, Mrs Walsh spoke out on issues such as planning policies, council procedures, footpath and dog laws. The last blog before her premature death was on Friday, 18th June where she wrote about CEO’s KPI’s in brief.

And the last comment on her blog spoke very much of the way she was revered in her community:

‘I understand Mary passed away suddenly during the week. I always felt i was on the same wavelength as mary, though we often saw things from a different perspective. I knew Mary no better than most here but had enormous respect for her honesty, compassion, fairness and fighting spirit. she will be a great loss to the fighters of corruption and dishonesty and to those who regard holding people accountable as crucial.

As Robert Kennedy once said :“There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why… I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?” something mary could easily have said.

Farewell, Mary.’
