Herald Sun Stamps Its Foot

September 16, 2010

Never a newspaper to shy away from controversy, the Herald Sun makes a standpoint on Victorian Stamp Duty Taxes.

Publicized by the REIV and many bloggers, the Herald Sun petition to John Brumby and Ted Baillieu comes at a time convenient to the upcoming state election.

The Herald Sun calls the stamp duty taxes a ‘cash grab’ of $3.6 billion. This morning they claim that over 90% of the people who voted in their online poll wanted the stamp duty tax burden reduced. The highest national stamp duties paid are from Victorian taxpayers. The government’s position remains that reductions to stamp duty payments will affect the budget of state healthcare and education standards.
